LOL
That's coo...You met bunch of Canadians eh? LOL

That's cool. I think that's another
difference between Canadians and
Americans - Canadians tend to like
international travel more than
Americans.

I mean, there's bunch of Americans out there, of course, but the US also has 10times more people.
I think I see a lot of Canadians
overseas despite their population size. Same for Aussies and Dutch people.

When's your travel till?
Stay safe!ykhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06198964186702223626noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9172101457805841157.post-56117966685290424982010-03-21T02:09:37.862-07:002010-03-21T02:09:37.862-07:00thanks for the translation! I understood the point...thanks for the translation! I understood the points about commercialism, patriotism and religion, but was a little confused about the Benz paragraph :). It's really interesting, too, because right after I read your post, I met a whole bunch of Canadians traveling (separately) in Indonesia. I became really good friends with one of them, Sara, and we've been traveling together for the last couple of weeks. We're soulmates :)

Take care and keep warm!Lindsey Frangerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01017580033522656074noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9172101457805841157.post-38849798713869413152010-03-10T20:04:30.767-08:002010-03-10T20:04:30.767-08:00Hey Linz!
I'm glad you're taking the time ...Hey Linz!
I'm glad you're taking the time to
read this! Maybe I should write both
Japanese and English so you can
compare and understand what the Japanese portion means! (Twice the work for me, haha)

Man, after the Olympics it was like
someone turned the switch off.
The city's back to normal.I don't
expect nearly as many people for
the Paralympics.

I'll briefly translate this post, and you can comment further.

So, the difference between Canadians and Americans have been
a major interest for me since I've
arrived here because as you say,
they're seemingly similar but very
different in some respects. I've
been asking people around for their opinion on what they think is the difference.

Here's the list in bullet point. (let's see if you read correctly!)

- In the US there's more commercialism, it feels like people
are trying to sell something to you
all the time.

- There's definitely more influence
of religion in the States.

- Americans are more direct in the
way they speak. Canadians could
benefit by being more like Americans in a sense because we're
worse off sometimes by hiding our
true thoughts.

- When you see someone driving a
Mercedes, for example, in Canada
people would look at you and think
"that person must be in a shady
business" or "that show off!"
(more or less, of course not everyone).
Whereas in the States there's more
admiration for people who've succeeded in their business and they would look up to you.
I think this is manifestation of the egalitarian side that Canada
has.

- Patriotism in the States are based on ideologies, where Canadian
patriotism tends to be Ice Hockey
and Maple Syrup LOL

- Americans are more "friendly" but
it feels more superficial. Canadians on the other hand are
shy but really nice.

These were some of the comments
I got.

My own conclusion so far is:

Canadians are nice in average.
But they won't cross a certain
line of intimacy.Sometimes this
feels a little bit cold.
Some Americans can be a total bitch
but there's also people who are
really really nice (like you!).
There seems to be more spectrum
in the type of people in America.

Hope that made sense!
I'll be studying further on this
throughout my stay in Canada!ykhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06198964186702223626noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9172101457805841157.post-63736151928656595432010-03-10T19:34:44.591-08:002010-03-10T19:34:44.591-08:00Hey Yu! What's up? Have things died down after...Hey Yu! What's up? Have things died down after since the Olympics are finally over? I didn't get to watch hardly any of them :( I don't even know who won the figure skating gold metal...and that's my favorite event! I guess I'll look it up right now.

I did my best to read your post, although, as you can imagine, I struggled through the kanji. But, from what I understood, it was very interesting. It seems funny that Canada and America are so close in proximity, lifestyle and perhaps history, but we have some major differences in character and ideals. I haven't spent very much time in Canada or around Canadian people, but (for better or for worse) I think your observations about American people are true.

Thanks for posting and providing interesting study material for me :)

Take care!
